About Tommy Hibbett
A Legacy of Service, Commitment, and Community
Born and raised in Mt. Juliet, Tommy Hibbett has dedicated his life to serving the community he loves. With deep roots in Wilson County, Tommy’s commitment to the well-being and safety of Mt. Juliet’s residents spans over three decades.
As a long serving School Resource Officer (SRO) in Wilson County, Tommy Hibbett had the privilege of serving under Terry Ashe, who founded the SRO program. Tommy dedicated 30 years to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, playing a crucial role in the success of the School Resource Officer program, which began in 1995. He served as the first SRO at Mt. Juliet High School for six years, followed by 22 years at Mt. Juliet Middle School, and prior to retirement at W.A. Wright Elementary. Affectionately known as “Coach Hibbett,” he was admired for his commitment to coaching and mentoring student-athletes.
Tommy’s dedication to education is evident through his teaching of criminal justice at Wilson County Schools and his role as a coach for the Mt. Juliet Middle School football team. His commitment to his students and the community has been recognized through various honors, reflecting his unwavering dedication to his profession and community.
Tommy’s values of honor, commitment, and loyalty have always guided his service. He has consistently upheld the highest standards in his profession, demonstrating his steadfast dedication to both his students and the broader community.
A family tradition of public service runs deep in Tommy’s lineage. His father, N.C. Hibbett, was the first mayor of Mt. Juliet following its incorporation in 1972. His mother, Jenny Bess Hibbett, served as a Mt. Juliet commissioner before becoming mayor in 1979. This legacy of leadership and commitment to public service has profoundly influenced Tommy’s own career and dedication to his community.
Tommy holds a Master of Liberal Arts and Science from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Science in Psychology from Tennessee State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Cumberland University. He is a member of the American Psychological Association since 2000. His advanced training includes certifications from the National Association of School Resource Officers, Hostage Negotiations School, and Law Enforcement Officers Training School in Hostage Negotiations, among others. He has also received recognition for his leadership skills, including the 1996 Medal of Merit.
